Breast Reconstruction
Reconstruction of the breast after mastectomy has been
around for a long time. The procedures have been fine
tuned and the results can be amazing. Patients can
choose from using there own tissue to using an implant.
The choice, of which type of procedure is right for you,
will depend upon your own body type as well as your
expectations. A consultation is essential to provide you
with the necessary information in order to make an
informed decision.
Unfortunately, breast reconstruction is quite different than most of the remainder of this site. In most other corners of this site, we discuss ways to beautify and rejuvenate ones body. Breast reconstruction is different in that it designed to replace a part of a woman’s body and soul. The breast, rightly or wrongly, is an important aspect of a woman’s femininity. Breast cancer uniquely stirs fear in a woman for loss of life as well as her own femininity. Furthermore, the media and the importance placed on the breast as a part of a woman’s sexuality is unfortunate.
Although breast reconstruction is well established as a treatment with huge success, I advise all my patients to become well-informed and seek help in many different places. Further, for the sake of friends and loved ones, I suggest that they review our discussion on breast self awareness.
