Necklift
As you begin to age, your skin begins to loosen and sag. The neck muscles become weak and unwanted fat deposits make your neck appear larger as our skin sags. A neck lift, also known as platysmaplasty, is a procedure to eliminate the sagging skin from your neck and tighten the skin that remains, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
A neck lift is designed to remove excess, sagging skin under the jaw line and on the neck. In some cases, the platysma muscle of the neck is adjusted and tightened if it has begun to separate and sag. Good candidates for a neck lift are patients with a fleshy neck, jowls (fatty deposits at the jaw line), a loose platysma, or a turkey waddle.
During the procedure, an incision is made under the chin and/or behind the ears. Skin is then tightened while excess skin is removed. Neck lift procedures are usually performed on an outpatient basis.
Today, facial rejuvenation procedures have become customized. Although natural is the buzzword of the moment, in reality what we really mean is that we can give the patient what they need, and sometimes that means “less is more”. The necklift is one of those procedures. For many patients, the first sign of the aging process is a sagging jawline and neckline. For some it is the slightest of jowls hanging below their necks. In the past they were given a full facelift with all the scars and only the limited benefit. Today, we can offer necklifts that offer local improvements, with minimal scarring (often with a small scar under the chin). Furthermore, because the technique is less invasive, operative time is lessened often less than 45 minutes, and recovery can take as little as three days.
Necklifts for Men
Many men develop excess heavy skin and fat below their chins and extending onto their necks. Quite often, the skin will overflow the collar and make them look heavier than they truly are. Although facelifting may help to alleviate these findings, the 10 day downtime, scarring in front of the ears and the need to shave behind your ears is a real turn-off for many men. The Platysmaplasty is the solution. This technique takes out all the excess skin and tightens all the sagging muscle from below the chin. The scarring is minimal and almost invisible. The best thing about this technique is that the downtime is 3 days and then you can resume your daily activities.
